Today I Have a Substitute Teacher - PECS Autism Social Skills Story - NEW!!!
Having a substitute teacher can really put a kink in the day. Seeing a new and unexpected face in the classroom can stop a child with autism right in their tracks. Now, of course you can't always prepare a student for these events in advance but a social story can help explain the situation (either planned or unplanned teacher absence) and get things running more smoothly again.
This story just explains that sometimes teachers need a day off for things (sick, appointments, etc.) and that a substitute teacher does their best to fill in and reassures them that their regular teacher will be back soon. You can preview the story a bit by checking out the photos.
This book has the added benefit of PECS Sentence Strips. This provides the additional benefit of attaching a picture to every word in the story. Because children with autism think in pictures, they also learn in pictures.
Purpose of social stories:
• I ncrease understanding
• D ecrease anxiety
• E ducate your child about an event
• A ffirm success
• S hare information
This story is 14 pages and measures approx. 8" x 6". ALL MATERIALS are printed in color on heavy duty card stock and heat laminated with commercial plastic. The book is bound with a vinyl coil binding and is extremely durable.
